Speech Therapy

Lutheran Home at Concord Reserve has licensed Speech-Language Pathologists on staff who are responsible for assessing individuals to determine communicative functioning, to identify the type and degree of communication problems as well as chewing and swallowing problems. An individualized treatment plan is implemented for rehabilitation in those areas of deficit to restore individuals to their highest possible levels of function and ability. Lutheran Home is proud to have been the first nursing home in the Cleveland area to implement both Vital Stim and DPNS, two leading edge advances in therapy for individuals with swallowing problems. In addition to our Speech Therapy staff, an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) physician completes routine rounds to assist with speech, swallowing and hearing issues or concerns of residents.

Treatments Include:
· Cognitive Reorganization:
Attention, organization, recall, problem solving
· Receptive and Expressive Language Rehabilitation:
Improving comprehension and expression to actively participate in decisions regarding medical, social and personal care
· Aural Rehabilitation:
Hearing aid training, speech reading,
environmental manipulations to produce
optimal listening opportunities
· Speech Therapy:
Oral-Motor strengthening, articulatory
precision to improve speech intelligibility
· Voice Therapy
· Dysphagia Therapy:
Diet modification and analysis, therapeutic
feedings, identification and training in
compensatory swallow strategies, thermal stimulation, E Stim and DPNS

Modified Barium Swallow Studies can be done at the facility via a mobile MBSS team.
