1958
Lutheran Home became the first nursing home in northern Ohio to offer Physical and Occupational Therapy.
1959
Through a grant from the Cleveland Foundation, Lutheran Home assessed the need for Social Workers in long-term care. At the completion of the study, Lutheran Home hired its first Social Worker.
1961
The first independent living cottage building was built at Lutheran Home. Within the next five years, a total of 12 independent living cottage units were constructed.
1964
Lutheran Home became one of the first nursing homes in the nation to employ a Medical Director. Additionally, the Home in 1964, was the first nursing home in the Cleveland area to affiliate with a hospital.
1968
The Lutheran Home opened the Luther House Independent Living Apartments in Mayfield Heights. Luther House and the adjacent Schnurmann House are an interfaith effort of Lutheran Home and an ecumenically based foundation (Schnurmann Foundation) to provide affordable, quality senior living apartments. Luther House today serves over 160 residents, while Schnurmann House serves close to 200 residents. At the Luther House/Schnurmann House Service Center planned social and recreational activities are held, lunch is served Monday through Friday (delivered to those unable to come to the center) and van transportation to appointments, shopping centers and social outings is offered.
1979
After several years of planning, construction began on the 152 bed expansion of Lutheran Home. The expansion included a new chapel, village square, main dining room and service areas. At the time of the expansion 300 individuals were on Lutheran Home's waiting list.
2002
Lutheran Home celebrated its 70th anniversary. Since its founding in 1932 Lutheran Home has provided long-term care services to over 4000 individuals.
2004
Lutheran Home becomes the first home in Ohio to offer 4 leading edge therapy services, Vital Stim, DPNS, Anodyne and Terra Quant therapy services.
2005
Plans are being finalized for addition of Assisted Living units and replacement of nursing home beds from the original building.
2007
Lutheran Home had top scores in the Ohio Department of Aging family satisfaction survey. Lutheran Home is one of the few facilities in the state to score better than the state average in each of the 54 survey questions and was among the highest scoring homes in the two key survey questions (Would you recommend the facility to others? And Do you like the facility?).
